As a Junior, Ashley competed at European Championships and on seperate occasions took 2nd and 3rd place honours in British Shotokan Karate Championships. Attendance at St. Augustine’s RC Primary and later Christ the King Secondary would see Ashley captain his school football team and play football at county and regional levels.
Ashley’s interest for basketball began after Saturday morning youth club session. Ashley played locally for the Redhill Rockets and within a short period of time represented Nottinghamshire Nova at County level and was later selected for the East Midlands regional squad.

It wasn’t until Ashley encountered Curtis Xavier that the possibility of a professional career in basketball became a real consideration. After being spotted training at the then known Jesse Boot Wildcats Arena, Ashley was recruited to play for the highly respected Academy programme at South Nottingham College. He was one of a select few teenagers chosen as part of the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA), a professionally structured training programme with pathways to playing and coaching, headed by Xavier and Paul Douglas. Ashley spent four years in the SNC (later converted to CNBC) programme.
Ashley’s relationship with Xavier (one of the world’s top development coaches for specific tutoring, preparation and individual instruction) continues today, nearly 11 years after their first encounter.
Ashley has over 10 years experience teaching, coaching and instructing the game of basketball. He started out working in Nottingham City and County Primary and Secondary Schools, but later held lead coaching roles at various specialised coaching camps including Run Press Run, Aim Higher and Nike UK Basketball Clinics. In recent years he has developed schemes to teach basketball in Spain.
Ashley’s interests stretch far further than the basketball court. Ashley has always had a love for design and all things visually creative. Whether it be graphic design, typography, photography, contemporary art, interiors, clothing, architecture and anything inbetween.
